Indoor blinds are a good way to make sure that the sun isn't pouring through your windows, especially when you are trying to sleep. They also help to maintain your privacy. The nice thing about blinds is that you can generally adjust them so that you can get more light or a better view and then close them when you want privacy. A good set of blinds can give you a lot of options. Before you are able to use those options, you need to make sure that you have the right blinds. One way to get those blinds is to measure for them correctly. Measuring for your blinds can be a relatively easy thing to do.

Tools

Before you measure, you need to have the right tools. You will need a tape measure, pen and paper, and possibly a stepping stool or ladder, depending on the height of the windows. When you get a measuring tape, go to the hardware store and get one of the flexible metal ones designed for construction and DIY work. You will get a more accurate measurement with one of those. You may also want to make sure that you have an additional pair of hands to help you out.

Inside Mount Blinds

If you are going to have blinds that mount inside the window casing, then you will measure from inside edge to inside edge, both vertically and horizontally. When you measure vertically, measure on each side and in the middle, making sure that the tape measure is right against the inside of the top of the casement. Write down those numbers and figure out which is the longest. When you measure horizontally, you want to measure the top, middle, and bottom, looking for the narrowest point. Your windows might have some variations in sizing since houses settle and nobody is perfect, even when installing windows. The longest and narrowest results are the ones you want to use for your blinds.

Outside Mount Blinds

Since these mount outside the window casement, you will need to have different measurements. First, measure at the top so that you can measure the entire space you want. Do the same at the bottom. When you measure at the middle, measure outside edge to outside edge, and make sure to add in enough wall space to cover the entire window.

Blinds give you a lot of options when it comes to lighting, privacy, and view. Measuring correctly for your blinds is easy and will help you get the right blinds for your house.
